DO DISTURB VOL 2, PALAIS DE TOKYO, PARIS 8-9-10 APRIL 2016
Design education as performance with Design Academy Eindhoven
We don’t need context. We need action. We need thinking in other ways. We need to take design education beyond the parameters of a degree or the confines of a building that is a school. We go forward. We look. We do. We push the creative synergies of tomorrow.
Design is dead. Long live design. The creatives from Design Academy Eindhoven that are behind these projects were showcased at Palais de Tokyo at the Do Disturb Volume II festival. They all have one thing in common: the capacity to doubt the default option. These heirs to the throne of design are questioning the template. Their nonlinear ways and unexpected leaps reveal the underlying virtue of a 21st century creative. Compounded by an uninhabitable mind, they are searching for alternate forms of expression and meaning. Through constant observation and documentation we are experiencing never-ending normalization and asphyxiation from visibility. In flux on-stage narratives leave little room for creative death, yet by shifting paradigms these designers make the throne obsolete.
